The offer of crypto services is increasingly influencing how some European investors choose their bank, according to a new study by B\u00f6rse Stuttgart Digital. According to the results of a survey conducted among about 6,000 investors from Germany, Italy, Spain and France, 35 percent of respondents would consider changing banks if another institution offered better opportunities related to cryptoassets. The survey also shows that almost one in five respondents expects their main bank to provide access to crypto-asset services in the next three years. The results of the survey indicate that some respondents expect the availability of crypto-asset services in the offer of financial institutions. On the other hand, regulatory issues and lack of information remain the biggest obstacles. One of the reasons for the changes in investor attitudes could be the new European regulatory framework. The Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, known as MiCA, became fully applicable to crypto-asset service providers at the end of December 2024. According to the survey, almost half of the respondents stated that it was MiCA that increased their confidence in the crypto-asset market. Matthias Voelkel, CEO of the B\u00f6rse Stuttgart Group, said that trust and a clear regulatory framework are important for the further development of the market in Europe and that MiCA brings greater legal clarity and transparency for market participants. Meanwhile, more and more traditional financial institutions are introducing services related to crypto-assets. In early 2025, B\u00f6rse Stuttgart Digital announced that, through its custodial subsidiary, it had become the first German crypto-asset service provider to obtain a MiCA license to operate at the European Union level. Among the countries surveyed, the highest share of investors in crypto-assets was recorded in Spain. Almost 28 percent of respondents said they already own crypto-assets. They are followed by Germany with 25 percent, Italy with 24 percent and France with 23 percent. At the level of all respondents, 25 percent of them indicated that they had already invested in crypto-assets, while 36 percent said that they were likely to invest again within the next five years. The results of the survey suggest that interest in crypto-assets persists despite changes in the market. According to a report by Chainalysis published in October 2025, Russia had the largest crypto market in Europe by the total value of crypto assets received between July 2024 and June 2025. Despite the growing interest in crypto-assets, regulatory issues and a lack of understanding of the market remain major obstacles. About 76 percent of respondents believe that crypto-assets are still not sufficiently regulated, while more than 60 percent state that there is not enough information about this area. At the same time, confidence in the regulatory framework has started to change following the introduction of the Markets in Crypto-assets Regulation (MiCA). The rules for crypto-asset service providers fully entered into force on 30 December 2024, introducing a single regulatory framework across the European Union.
